Early life
Oliver Kahn was born the son of a former Bundesliga player Rolf Kahn in the summer of 1969. It set the field earlier that Oliver Kahn will also turn to football. At the age of 6 he joined Karlsruher SC, where he received his training as a goalkeeper until 1987. Since 1987 and so on he began his career as a professional at Karlsruher SC.
Career highlights
In his active time, he won several titles. In total there were eight German championships, six wins in the DFB Cup, the UEFA Cup in 1996 and the same year the title as European champions. However, here he was not used. In 2002 Oliver Kahn was a runner-up world champion with the German national team and tournament players in Japan and South Korea. He succeeded as the first goalkeeper.
He also received many individual awards. He has been named the goalkeeper three times and the UEFA goalkeeper four times, making him a record holder in this ranking. He also finished second – also unusual for goalkeepers – in the 2002 football election.
The most important title in his career certainly won the 2001 Champions League when he saved several penalties in a penalty fight against Valencia CF and thus won the match. Two years earlier he suffered the most bitter defeat in his career with 1: 2 against Manchester United. It is unclear whether the World Cup final that was missing from 2002 increasingly gnawed at him. In the same year winning the title in the Champions League, Oliver Kahn also won the 2001 World Cup.
